חוּפּהf. (b. h. חֻפָּה; חפף I) 1) covering, canopy, esp. bridal chamber; also (= כניסה לח׳) the entrance of the bride into the bridal chamber; wedding. Kidd.5a, a. fr. ח׳ קונה the introduction into the bridal chamber constitutes possession (legitimate marriage). Ib. 3a למעוטי ח׳ to exclude, as a form of marriage, the delivery by her father to take her into the bridal chamber. Gen. R. s. 94 לא ראה בחוּפָּתִי was not present at my wedding.
